Facts about Aspergers

Considering that April is Autism Awareness Month, I thought I’d blog about some facts about Aspergers.

  • Aspergers Syndrome was named after the founder, Hans Asperger.
  • Hans Asperger done experiments on children that had been tested for Autism. Most children had some milder traits of Autism, and had a high IQ, so were nick named ‘Little professors’.
  • Due to a fire, most, or not all of the files Hans kept, were destroyed
  • Some of the files were found by a woman
  • Due to the files being in German, the woman got her husband to translate the files. She later regretted this.
  • People who have Aspergers, are often called ‘Aspies’ for short.
  • In 2013, Aspergers was removed as a diagnoses
  • Aspergers Syndrome now comes under the umbrella of Autism Spectrum Disorder

Inspirational Women

Considering tomorrow is International Womens Day (Friday 6th of March) I thought it would be a nice idea to include the women that are inspirational – Past and present

Who:
Emmeline Pankhurst

Why she inspires us:
All though she wasn’t perfect, she demanded equality for women as leader of the suffragette movement. Her efforts led to the vote being granted to women over the age of 30, owned a property or were married to a man who owned property in 1918.

What she taught us:
Underestimate the power of fearless at your peril suffragettes threw themselves under horses, chained themselves to railings and starved themselves for the right to vote.

Who:
Gertrude Ederle

Why she inspires us:
Gertrude Ederle was the first woman to swim the English Channel. And she did it wearing motorcycle goggles.

What she taught us:
I knew it could be done, it had to be done, I did it

Who:
Helen Keller

Why she inspires us:
After losing her vision and hearing at an early age, Helen defied expectations to achieve a bachelors degree and inspired generations as an activist for disability rights

What she taught us:
Helen refused to live life as a typical “invalid”
Life is either an adventure or nothing

Who:
Princess Diana

Why she inspires us:
Princess Diana was well known for her work with sufferers of AIDS and Anti – Landmine campaigns means that Diana was really “The Peoples Princess”

What she taught us
Everyone in society deserves to have a voice

Who:
Emma Watson

Why she inspires us:
Emma is best known for portraying Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter series. She became an outspoken in the fight for global womens rights and how men should be more involved in feminism.

What she taught us:
Both men and women should feel free the right to be sensitive. Both men and women should feel free to be strong.

Who:
Greta Thunberg

Why she inspires us:
Greta created “School Strike for Climate Change” and went on becoming 2019’s Person of The Year

What she taught us:
As a schoolchild Greta managed something environmentalists have been trying for years – she got the whole worlds attention. No matter your age or size you can make a difference.

Happy International Womens Day Everyone

Its perfectly ok to not to think positive all the time

Yes,  we all get those bad days. I even get those days where I just want to wind down and not be bothered with anyone. Usually when I’m out and about by myself would be my time to help me relax. I normally have my headphones on listening to upbeat songs, while on the bus (usually end up fallen asleep).

I then try to brush things off by thinking more exciting things like going to the shop or spending time with my family or even more simply playing with my dogs. I just randomly go up stairs to my bedroom and start to meditate. Again I’d end up falling asleep…. Getting the drift here are ye! Sleep cures everything ha!

Pineapple upside down cake

I decided to do something different on my blog today. I seen this recipe for Pineapple upside down cake from BBC’s Good Food

I hope you enjoy it

What you need for the topping

  • 50g softened butter
  • 50g light soft brown sugar
  • 7 pineapple rings in syrup, drained and syrup reserved
  • 7 glacé cherries

    For the cake

  • 100g softened butter
  • 100g golden caster sugar
  • 100g self-raising flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • Baking powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 eggs

    Method:

  • Heat oven to 180C/160C fan/gas 4.
  • For the topping, beat 50g softened butter and 50g light soft brown sugar together until creamy.
  • Spread over the base and a quarter of the way up the sides of a 20cm round cake tin.
  • Arrange 7 pineapple rings on top (reserving the syrup for later), then place 7 glacé cherries in the centres of the rings.
  • Place 100g softened butter, 100g golden caster sugar, 100g self-raising flour, 1 tsp baking powder, 1 tsp vanilla extract and 2 eggs in a bowl along with 2 tbsp of the reserved pineapple syrup.
  • Using an electric whisk, beat to a soft consistency.
  • Spoon into the tin on top of the pineapple and smooth it out so it’s level. Bake for 35 mins.
  • Leave to stand for 5 mins, then turn out onto a plate. Serve warm with a scoop of ice cream.
